This 1989 Princess 45 Marine Survey for insurance renewal in Hamble reminded me just how good these Bernard Olesinski / Marine Projects craft were. A real pleasure for a Marine Surveyor to inspect, this one had the twin Cats which didn’t leave a lot of room around the engines – the fuel tanks are one weak point.
For a qualified marine surveyor this classic Nordic Folkboat in Lymington was a pleasure to survey. This one by LM Glasfiber of Denmark, unusually had a self draining cockpit, an option from new. This one has been extensively cruised and was in excellent condition. Being over 20 years old, this was an insurance survey for the current owner.
This Contest 55 in Lymington was undergoing a major refurbishment project when as a Marine Surveyor I was asked to supervise the project. The critical moisture level below the waterline was accurately established using the latest testing equipment, reading both the laminate and the internal end grain balsa core, prior to a full epoxy treatment with WEST system 105.
Dehler 36 CWS marine survey for insurance renewal at Hythe Marina Village. These Dehlers were built to last, the quality of these elder boats is well known and hence they fetch very respectable prices when they come onto the market, compared with more recent yachts and other marques.

This Beneteau First designed by Bruce Farr and built by Beneteau as a performance cruiser racer has been well travelled, including two Atlantic trips and a long stay in the Caribbean. Recently resprayed in Awlcraft by Desty Marine in Hamble she represents an excellent value fast cruiser.

These long range capable yachts have cruised the world in style, this one already has an ARC behind her. Equipped with all the luxury equipment including a/c to make life onboard pleasant.
Contest 50CS Marine Survey in Medemblik, Holland where she was originally built. This great go anywhere cruiser was being sold by the original owner, who has already cruised the world in her. In great condition and ready to go around the world again, one of my favourite cruisers!
A Southerly 49 shallow draft pilot house saloon with in mast roller furling and staysail option. These solid cruisers by Northshore have twin rudders to take the ground in the shallowest of waters. This particular example has already been down the Canal du Midi, possibly one of the largest yachts to do so.
Oyster 485 from 1994 in immaculate condition. A thorough maintenance programme on this blue water cruiser has kept her in great condition. These British built go anywhere cruisers are world renowned for their high quality and sea keeping qualities.
A Princess 45 marine survey in Hamble Point Marina. These classic Bernard Olesinski designs are sought after for their legendary sea keeping qualities. Built by Marine Projects in Plymouth, the structure is still strong after 26 years.
Bavaria 44 Yacht Marine Survey at Universal Marina on the River Hamble. These high volume mass produced budget cruisers have taken the market by storm since the early 2000’s. Popular with charter operators and the private buyer and offering exceptional value.
Dufour 36 Classic Yacht Marine Survey with Ancasta in Lymington at Lymington Yacht Haven. A solid sailing cruiser with a deep coloured mahogany interior that had been well cared for. The linear galley to starboard, curved seating to port with a bench seat on the centreline is an unusual but highly effective and practical layout.
Hallberg Rassy 48 Sea Trial with Berthon Brokerage and the purchaser from Lymington within the Western Solent. The best part of being a Yacht Surveyor / Marine Surveyor can be sea trials such as this. This Hallberg Rassy is a high quality Scandinavian yacht, this vessel has sailed around the world, and could do so again!
Beneteau First 34.7 Marine Survey at Ancasta in Port Hamble. The 34.7 is Beneteau’s IRC racer/cruiser answer to the likes of the J/109, X35 and Archambault 35. Designed with a low CofG fin keel with a lead torpedo bulb, the optional carbon rig and carbon bowsprit and a lightweight interior, this vessel should be highly competitive in IRC fleets around the country, inshore cans racing or JOG & RORC offshore racing.
Contest 45CS Marine Survey at Berthon Lymington. This Contest 45CS Pre-purchase survey was built to high standards in Holland. Contest – robust luxury cruisers have been proven over decades to be solid, reliable and ideal either as a liveaboard or an ocean going cruiser.

Hanse 455 Marine Survey, at Universal Marina on the river Hamble. The Hanse 415, a stylish German production cruiser / racer with modern interior at Universal Marina, Hamble River. This Hanse in excellent condition and offering a good combination of accommodation and performance.
Nauticat 321 Marine Survey for Stratton Marine. The Nauticat 321 was built in Finland to very high standards using the best quality materials. This Nauticat is a go anywhere aft cockpit heavy displacement cruiser that has been meticulously maintained by her current owner. This pre-purchase survey resulted in no recommendations at all to the hull and structure, with just a few fire extinguishers to replace.
Beneteau Oceanis 390 Marine Survey at Ancasta ,Port Solent Marina, Portsmouth. These high volume low cost comfortable cruisers have been a favourite with charter companies worldwide for years. Wrap around coachroof windows, plenty of ventilation, a large bathing platform and space for a bimini without obstructing the mainsheet system are several reasons why these vessels are popular in the hotter climates.
Moody 44 Marine Survey Southampton, a 1991 vessel in excellent condition with an ongoing thorough maintenance programme by an experienced owner. This Moody has done 2 cross Atlantic trips, competing in the ARC with the current owner, and easily capable of doing another similar trip.

Beneteau Oceanis 393 Yacht Marine Survey at Deacons Boatyard, Swanwick. Built in 2002 these vessels were one of Jean Berret and Beneteau’s best, with hundreds built, dozens crossing oceans. This one was the 3 cabin and linear galley layout, with the Volvo 55, all in excellent condition.
Arcona 400 Marine Survey in Hamble. A very high quality performance cruiser / racer from Arcona Yachts AB in Sweden. A beautifully finished vessel with excellent design and engineering, including galvanised steel frame connecting keel, mast and chainplate loadings together.
Fairline Marine Survey at Yachting Sports, Hamble. This Fairline 43 in Hamble near the completion of an 18 month refurbishment programme. Considerable betterment of the original Fairline design including new galley area, heads, upholstery plus new Fischer Panda generator, Caterpillar C7 diesels, Furuno radar and navigation equipment, and a long list of other improvements.
A Nautor Swan 48 Marine Survey at Berthon in Lymington. Designed by German Frers and built by Nautor in Finland, these legendary Swan yachts have cruised and raced all over the world, as has this lovely example. Constructed to the highest standards and still looking great 16 years from new.
Pre-Purchase Marine Survey on 1989 Dehler 34 Top in Poole. A very well built vessel from Germany with a good performance too – the Dehler 34 was derived from a successful IOR 3/4 tonner and mass produced on a large scale. Still popular and a vessel that has aged very well over the 25 years since new.
