Chichester

Chichester Harbour is one of the UK’s largest natural harbours and includes several charming and well-known Sussex town villages such as Emsworth, Bosham and Itchenor as well as Chichester.

On entering the harbour by sea, a large shoal must be navigated and is not safe to cross in strong winds from the south. Passing Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC) to port, Sparkes Marina, to the West of the entrance, is the first yacht marina one can visit. It hosts numerous facilities from GRP repairs, engineering services and a hoist.

North of Sparkes Marina is the Hayling Yacht Company at Mengham Rythe, and then Northney Marina.

Emsworth Yacht Harbour is just a short walk from Emsworth and the Sussex Brewery and is a small marina with limited draft.

To the east of the harbour, the largest of the marinas in Chichester is Chichester Yacht Basin, now owned by Premier Marinas and renamed Chichester Marina. It can berth over 1,000 boats with an efficient lock which operates on free flow at high water.

Finally Birdham Pool Marina, with 265 berths it is perhaps the most idyllic of them all. Set in a beautiful unspoilt location with an old mill overlooking the marina – if you want peace then this is the place to be!
