Who ‘we’ are
When we say ‘we’ we mean Guy Nicholls and Louise Nicholls – we are Solent Marine Surveys Ltd. Guy is a fully qualified marine surveyor specialising in yacht surveys for GRP (FRP) sailing and motor yachts. Louise runs the office and ensures that our policies and process are up to date.
Your personal data
The law on data protection sets out a number of different reasons for which a company may collect and process your personal data. Personal data means any information that may be used to identify you, such as your name, title, phone number, address, email address. We collect and use personal information from different places:
- Directly from you with your consent; by phone, email, and our Booking Instruction Form
- From a yacht broker
- From another surveyor passing your enquiry to us
How we’ll use your information
We will use your information to:
- arrange and fulfil the service you contract us to carry out; namely a yacht survey
- to recover an unpaid debt
Will we share your information?
No. Solent Marine Surveys does not share personal information with third parties, unless you specifically ask as to do so. For example, you may ask us to pass on your email and/or phone number to a specific contractor for additional work, or for an evaluation that you require, by a professional rigger or marine engineer for example.
How will we store your information?
Your information will be stored on Solent Marine Surveys Ltd secure network. More information on this can be found in our Data Protection Policy.
How long will we keep your information?
We will keep your personal information for seven years or longer if required. After that time or if no longer required, your personal information will either be deleted from our records or anonymised.

We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.
