** For a pre-purchase and insurance survey the engine(s) and any drives should be evaluated as a separate exercise by a qualified marine engineer who will have the necessary expertise and diagnostic equipment required. A sea trial should be carried out with the marine engineer; it is an inexpensive addition to the pre-purchase survey and is recommended. It allows testing of the engine(s), including checking start up, exhaust smoke /colour, fluid leaks, oil pressure, vibration, and whether full power under load is being achieved. For an insurance survey the engine(s) are visually inspected only and not started, no guarantees can be offered to their future reliability and/or maintenance costs.**
